Il presente Volume nasce nell'ambito del Congresso Europeo di Paleobotanica e palinologia EPPC tenutosi a Padova nel 2014. Questo volume raccoglie numerose informazioni sulle piante fossili in Italia, frutto sia di Studi realizzati sul terreno, oltre che di consultazione sulle ricche collezioni storiche conservate presso moltissimi istituti di ricerca e Musei Italiani ed Esteri. La storia che si racconta , lunga 300 milioni di anni, abbraccia le piu antiche piante fossili conosciute in italia fino ai resti rinvenuti in scavi archeologici. L'unicità del patrimonio Italiano è descritta e raccontata in questo importante volume.
 
The present volume is edited by the organizer of the 9th Eruropean Paleobotany and palynology Congress in Padova, Italy (EPPC 2014).
Italy's paleobotanical record is extensive. However, this heritage has largely been forgotten. omre Then 300 million years lie between the oldest plant Fossils discovered in Italy and Quaternary plant remains found in archeological excavations. Fossi floras throughout Italy are remarkable in that they show a surprising abundance and diversity over million of years. The Italian paleobotanical heritage represents an important source of new information on the evolution of plants and the ecosystems in which they lived, but can also help in predicting future enviromental scenarios.
Si tratta di un patrimonio culturale unico per la conoscenza del nostro passato e, come tale, importantissimo fonte di informazioni sui futuri scenari italiani.
